Everything you need to know about solar panels and renewable energy
Most homeowners save between 50-70% on their electricity bills with solar panels. The exact savings depend on your energy usage, roof orientation, and the size of your system. We provide a free assessment to calculate your potential savings.
Yes, Greentech Renewables is fully MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme) certified and TrustMark approved. This certification ensures our installations meet the highest standards and makes you eligible for government incentives like the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG).
Most residential solar panel installations are completed in 1-2 days. Battery storage and heat pump installations may take slightly longer depending on the complexity. We handle all paperwork and grid registration for you.
Our solar panels come with a 25-year performance warranty, and inverters typically have a 10-year warranty. All installations include insurance-backed guarantees for your peace of mind.
Absolutely! Solar panels work using daylight, not direct sunlight, so they generate electricity even on cloudy days. The UK receives enough solar radiation to make solar panels a worthwhile investment, with systems producing more during summer months.
The SEG requires energy suppliers to pay you for excess electricity you export back to the grid. Combined with an MCS-certified installation (which we provide), you can earn money from the energy you don’t use.
Yes, we can retrofit battery storage to most existing solar panel systems. This allows you to store excess energy generated during the day for use at night, maximising your savings and energy independence.
Generate your own power and keep rising costs off your bills.
From 1 October 2025 the price cap regulated by Ofgem (for a typical household on a standard variable tariff, paying by direct debit) will be £1,755 per year—an increase of 2 % from the preceding quarter.
It is important to remember: although the cap limits the unit rates and standing charges suppliers can bill, your actual cost depends entirely on how much energy you use. Using more energy means paying more.
With the cap set at £1,755 for typical use (but rising for higher use), households on default tariffs are vulnerable to cost creep—even if the unit rate remains stable.
Because the cap is a rate cap, not a “bill cap”, excessive usage will push bills well above the headline figure.
Given ongoing global energy-market volatility and standing charges rising, the risk of unexpectedly high bills remains.
1. Independence from Rising Grid Costs
Installing systems like solar panels or heat pumps lets you generate your own clean energy, which reduces your reliance on supplier-driven tariffs and the unit/standing-charge model.
2. The ability to save money over time
Renewables can lock in lower ongoing energy costs, which can help protect homes from future price hikes, but they do require an initial investment.
3. Value added and long-term viability
Renewable energy sources not only save money, but they also make a property more environmentally friendly, lower its carbon footprint, and attract buyers who care about the environment.
4. Timing is key
Now that the cap is set and going up, the case for acting now is stronger. Every quarter you wait, the cost baseline goes up.
Our friendly local team are incredibly happy to meet with you in your home or talk with you over the phone and advise on all aspects of a solar installation.
Solar panels turn daylight into electricity, and it’s far more straightforward than most people think. With energy prices in the UK going up and down over the last few years, many homeowners are simply looking for a bit more stability. Solar helps with exactly that — it reduces how much you depend on the grid and gives you more control over your monthly bills.
Even here in the North West, we get enough usable sunlight each year to make solar a sensible investment. It’s not just about saving money today but protecting yourself from whatever happens with the next price cap or tariff change.
When sunlight hits your solar panels, they produce DC electricity. An inverter then turns this into AC electricity so your home can use it. If you generate more than you need, the extra can go into a battery or be exported back to the grid.
On darker days or at night, your home will naturally switch to stored power or the grid without you needing to do anything. The whole system runs quietly in the background — no moving parts, minimal fuss, and built to last for decades.
One of the biggest advantages of solar is that you start using less grid electricity straight away, so your bills drop from day one. It also helps protect you from rising unit costs and unpredictable winter price spikes.
People also choose solar because it:
Gives you more control over your energy use
Helps cut your carbon footprint
Improves your EPC rating
Can increase your property value
Needs very little ongoing maintenance
If you add a battery, your savings can increase even further because you can use more of your own power instead of buying expensive peak-time electricity.
We begin with a survey to check your roof angle, direction, shading and structure. Once we have the details, we design a system that fits your home, your usage and your future plans.
When you’re happy with the design, we can usually install everything within one or two days. That includes the panels, inverter, wiring, generation meter and full system setup. All work is carried out by qualified engineers and follows MCS and TrustMark standards.
Businesses across the North West are dealing with rising energy costs just like homeowners. A solar system can help reduce daytime electricity bills, make budgets more predictable, and support sustainability goals.
For many SMEs, solar provides long-term financial and operational benefits. It can also help improve EPC scores, support environmental reporting and reduce overall carbon output — things that matter more each year.
A typical solar setup includes:
High-efficiency monocrystalline panels
A hybrid or traditional inverter
Optional optimisers for shaded roofs
A generation meter
Optional battery storage
Panels are fitted securely to your roof using appropriate mounting systems, and you’ll have access to a monitoring app so you can keep an eye on your production and savings in real time. We use Tier-1 equipment only, so everything is backed by strong warranties and long-term performance data.
A battery lets you store the energy your panels make during the day and use it later whenever you need it. It’s especially helpful in the evening when electricity is more expensive.
A hybrid inverter links the solar panels and battery so they work seamlessly together. In some setups, the battery can even provide limited backup power if the grid goes down. For households with electric vehicles, a battery can also reduce charging costs.
Savings vary depending on the size of your system and how much energy your home uses, but most people see immediate reductions. With a battery, the savings can increase significantly because you’re using more of your own electricity.
In the North West, payback periods usually fall between six and ten years. Considering the typical 25–30 year lifespan of a solar system, most homeowners see a strong long-term return. Exporting your surplus energy can also generate extra income.
Solar systems require very little maintenance. There are no moving parts, and the panels generally only need to be kept free from heavy dirt or debris.
The inverter is the one component that may need replacing after 10–15 years. We offer periodic checks and monitoring support to help keep everything running smoothly. Most issues, if they arise, can be spotted early through the monitoring app.
Despite our reputation for cloudy weather, the North West gets plenty of daylight for solar to work well. Modern panels perform strongly even when it’s overcast, and they’re actually more efficient in cooler temperatures.
Across Lancashire and Greater Manchester, we see consistent results year after year, whether the property is in a suburban street, a rural setting or a busy commercial area.
We’re fully accredited with MCS, TrustMark and NAPIT, which means every installation is carried out to recognised industry standards.
You’ll receive manufacturer warranties on your panels, inverter and mounting equipment, as well as insurance-backed guarantees on the installation itself. These protections help ensure your system delivers strong, reliable performance long into the future.
The Smart Export Guarantee lets you earn money for the electricity you send back to the grid. Rates vary by supplier, and we help you understand which tariffs are currently offering the best value.
With a battery, you can manage when you export and when you store, making the most of the energy you generate.
With lots of companies entering the market, it’s important to choose an installer with real experience and solid regional knowledge. Roof types, shading and grid setups vary across the North West, so local expertise matters.
Greentech Renewables has built up a strong reputation in the region, with many new customers coming from recommendations. We focus on accurate system design, safe installation and long-term support.
Getting started is simple. We offer a remote or in-person assessment to understand your roof, energy use and goals. You’ll receive a clear proposal showing your expected savings, system size, equipment and payback period.
Once everything is approved, installation can usually be scheduled quickly. We also handle the paperwork, warranties and export registration so you’re fully set up from day one.
